The Bad Guys' Plan (in pseudocode)

move Grond (the Hammer of the Underworld) into place

while the gates are impassable
  swing Grond

pass through the gates and attack

The Good Guys' Plan (in pseudocode)

get in ready position

while no orders from Gandalf
  stand your ground

if order is "volley!"
  shoot arrows
